My brother - in - law has some rats in his son's room. I entered the room with a little trepidation, as I had been in a house before that had three black rats which seemed quite menacing. However, these rats were lightish brown with whisps of white and did look quite 'cute.' I did pass on the picking them up though!
Also, our hairdresser keeps chinchillas and I was surprised to see how big they were.

I too had a close encounter with a pet rat sometime ago ,a good friend of mine from my homeland of Yorkshire who I hadn't seen for a long time came to stay for a few days .Preparations were made for two visitors but to my astonishment I had an extra guest that week in the shape of her pet rat .I must admit it was sweet after the initial shock.
