We use a tile cutter to make a start mark before drilling through tiles when fitting roller blinds. I hav’nt broken a tile for years!

I never liked the idea of marking the hole and drilling through masking tape.
The tile cutter provides a more positive start to the hole. It is still possible for the drill bit to slide when using masking tape.
Just be careful and never use the hammer action on your drill when drilling through the tiles.
